Vigilance arrests two accused wanted in selling Shamlat land by manipulating revenue records

Chandigarh September 1 : Cracking a whip against land mafia who took over the land worth crores of rupees in an illegal manner, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Thursday arrested accused Parveen Kumar and Veer Singh of village Kona, District Panchkula who were involved with others for tampering of the revenue records regarding mutation of approximately 558 acres (4624 Kanals) of village common land of village Majrian in SAS Nagar district in connivance with the officials of revenue department.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) informed that in this regard the Bureau had already registered a criminal case under FIR No. 06 dated 08-05-2021 u/s 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act and 409, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 477-A, 201, 120-B of IPC, at VB, FS-1, police station SAS Nagar against the officials of Revenue Department of Sub Tehsil Majri and private persons/ property dealers, after the verification of complaint no: 370 of 2019, Mohali, which relates to fabrication and tempering of revenue record of Village Majrian, Sub Tehsil Majri, Tehsil Kharar, Distt S.A.S Nagar.
Giving details he further informed that during the investigation of the above said case, it come to fore that accused Veer Singh of village Kona, District Panchkula got 17 acres (136 kanals) of land of village Majrian in his name fraudulently and further sold this land to various persons by giving General Power of Attorney (GPA). In the same way second accused namely Parveen Kumar of village Kona, District Panchkula is responsible for procuring GPA of land measuring 80 Kanals in the name of on fake person namely Kamaljit Singh S/o Amrik Singh, who is not traceable yet and further sold it to different persons.
He informed that during the investigation of the above said case it was found that the tampering and fabrication in the revenue record regarding mutation (Iintkal) was done under no 3159 dated 21.05.2004 which was filed by the residents of the village Majrian for division of their respective land, of which they were actual owners as per mutation no: 2026 dated 07.05.1991 by the then consolidation officer, Mohali. But the accused property dealers in conniving with revenue officials have fraudulently managed to alter the mutation of village land in which the 14 persons were shown as owners of the land measuring 558 Acres (4464 Kanals) of village Majrian.
It has come to light that out of these 14 persons, 12 were totally bogus. They were neither the owners, residents of village Majrian nor the cultivators of the above said land. Rest 2 persons are residents of Majrian and owner of some land in question but the shares had been increased from their actual shares by the accused revenue officials. Apart from this, on 18.06.2014 and on 19.06.2014, approx. 578 acres (4624 Kanals) of land had been transferred fraudulently to persons who were actually not the owners of the land
He said that some revenue officials and private persons/ property dealers have already been arrested. Both the above said accused will be produced in the Hon'ble Court today and their police remand will be taken to further investigate the matter.
