Vigilance Bureau nabs Superintendent Engineer for taking Rs 1,00,000 bribe
Chandigarh May 15 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday nabbed RK Gupta, Superintendent Engineer (SE), Quality Control, posted at Water Supplies and Sanitation department, at SAS Nagar red handed for taking a bribe of Rs 1,00,000.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused have been arrested on the complaint of Lakhpat Rai, resident of Sri Mukatsar Sahib. He informed that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that he has been working with a government contractor who had been allotted a tender to augment safe drinking water supply scheme in village Khunan, block Kotbhai, in Sri Mukatsar Sahib district. The complainant further alleged that the above said SE have demanded Rs 2,00,000 as a bribe to clear the pending bills and submitting a inspection report of the said project but the deal has been struck at Rs one lakh.
The spokesperson added that after preliminary investigation of the complaint, the VB unit of Bathinda range laid a trap and the accused SE has been arrested while accepting bribe money of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The bribe money was also recovered by the VB team on the spot.
In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the said accused at VB police station Bathinda. Further investigation in this case was under progress, he informed.
