California wildfires have caused devastating losses in Los Angeles, destroying thousands of homes and businesses and forcing many people to evacuate. Investigators are working to determine what sparked the fires that have killed 16 people and impacted celebrities and ordinary residents alike.
Possible reasons behind the fires
The fire that began near Piedra Morada Drive is still being investigated. Lightning, often a common cause of fires, was ruled out as there were no reports of storms in the area. This leaves two main possibilities: arson or utility line-related incidents.
The California Public Utilities Commission requires utility companies to report any electric issues that might cause wildfires. Southern California Edison, a utility company, stated that no issues with its equipment occurred until after the fire started. Investigators are also exploring other causes, including accidents. For example, a gender reveal party in 2021 caused a massive fire that destroyed 36 square miles of land.

Wildfire impact and containment efforts
The Palisades Fire has spread over 23,600 acres, with only 11% containment. Meanwhile, the Eaton Fire has burned 14,000 acres and is 15% contained. Firefighters are working tirelessly to control the flames, but strong winds and dry conditions are making the job difficult.
The wildfires have turned the landscape into a disaster zone, displacing countless residents and destroying homes, including those of Hollywood celebrities. The tragedy has left the community searching for answers while officials continue their investigation into the fires’ origins.
